I’ve been to Australia once proper (Melbourne), plus one extended layover where I got into the city (Brisbane), and a couple short airport-only layovers (Sydney).  Australia doesn’t really boast its own cuisine, except Vegemite.  Menus are largely based on Anglo-American traditions, often with a few Asian fusion items tossed in.  Spending a week in Melbourne, among the greatest food cities that I’ve experienced, I was extremely impressed by the restaurant culture’s generally high standards of quality, even at cheap snack shops.  I look forward to going back someday, for the food.
