Eating my way through the restaurants in the 5-star hotels within walking distance of my apartment in Manila: New World (3), Pan-Pacific (5), Diamond (2). In contrast to the crappy food in the neighborhood, hotels ought to do better, at least in terms of quality.
Pacific Lounge is an American restaurant. The only one operated directly by and situated within Diamond Hotel itself – other establishments, independently owned and run, are in a segregated mall, part of the main structure. On the menu, a standard range of grilled meats and seafoods, pizzas and pastas, salads and appetizers, plus a few local dishes.
The steak wasn’t too bad. Just so-so in terms of taste, rather bland, even with the “light peppercorn sauce.” But the 300-gram cut was a full inch thick, as any steak should be, providing an appropriate contrast between the crispy crust and juicy interior, which did, however, have an odd waxy texture, possibly due to the “garlic marinade,” reminding me of the steak at Casa Armas (see 6.05 Lentejas con Chorizo). In any case, the best for-value steak that I’ve had in the area thus far.
