Noodles with Minced Pork Sauce

3.0

at Din Tai Fung

-Bonifacio High Street, BGC-

with W and the Boyz

O Joy O Bliss!
The newest Philippine location in the BGC, right in our backyard.
Are there other chains that set up shop to include a waiting area, just knowing that the customers will line up?

My experiences with Din Tai Fung across the world (in order of preference) :

Come to think of it, I’ve eaten at Din Tai Fung in more countries than any other full service restaurant — topped overall only by fast food McDonald’s at 6 (USA, Switzerland, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Egypt).

Whereas the restaurant scene in Manila is inarguably the global leader in style over substance — so slick in terms of branding, decor, presentation; so shabby in terms of freshness, service, preparation — I’m happily surprised that the Din Tai Fung here would seem, at least in my perception, to be the best in the whole wide world.

Same brand that I had in Taipei, but apparently the export version (judging by the English on the label).
Without thinking about it, I ordered what turned out to be vaguely proximal to a standard Korean-Chinese spread, including  fried rice and …
Crispy Shrimp & Pork Wontons (3.0) : kinda like gunmandu (potstickers).
Kinda like jjajangmyeon, in fact closer to the original Chinese version (see for comparison 5.072 Zha Jiang Mian7.164 Peking Duck).
Braised Beef Noodle Soup (3.0) : kinda like jjambbong, if only because it’s spicy.
Xiaolongbao (3.5)

  1. I’d be much more interested in a “Try Every DTF” instead of “Try Every Stupid McDonald’s Offering”

    1. It would be “TEID (Try Every Item at Din-Tai-Fung)” — nice acronym, and I’d love to try it, but —

Wait a second, why not?!!? Okay, when W and the Boyz get back, this will be our first family Try Every project (why should I always suffer alone???)!!!!!

      1. Love it! Sounds fun. I take full credit for such a brilliant idea.

Anything to keep you away from the McDonalds and BKs of the world.
