Inspired by a recent experience with the dish in a restaurant (see 13.212 Shrimp in Lobster Sauce), I followed the recipe from The Woks of Life (see Shrimp with Lobster Sauce).
Turned out very nice. From the recipe, I omitted ground pork (seemed weird), peas (didn’t have), and scallions (didn’t have), but included broccoli and scallops. The sauce, just garlic + chicken stock + shaoxing wine + sesame oil + white pepper + sugar + corn starch + egg, was a revelation in its delicate simplicity, so soft and creamy. Similar to but better than an improvised dish that I made last month, which had included soy sauce and oyster sauce (see 13.187 Mommy and Baby Swimming with Trees).
My collection of restaurant posts featuring seafood in eggy gravy, my favorite kind of Chinese dish:
-
- 5.024 Egg Fuyong with Scallops (3.0)
- 5.244 Scrambled Egg Whites with Fish & Dried Scallops (4.0)

- 13.007 Sauteed Egg with Crab Meat (4.0)
- 13.212 Shrimp in Lobster Sauce (3.0)
As such dishes are exceedingly rare in Korea, I’ll be glad to master my own.
Next time, with peas and scallions, and egg whites only, I aim for 4.0.

Hey! Just wondering if this blog will keep being updated? I see there haven’t been any new posts in a few months. I love keeping up with this blog, gives me an interesting view of living in Korea, and also often gives me some recipe ideas.
