Living above Robinsons Place, I’ve been eating my way through the mall.  As far as I know, nobody has ever done anything like this, my unique contribution to the city’s food/blog scene.

In the Philippines, a queue of waiting customers at a restaurant does not necessarily mean that the food is good.

Gerry’s Grill is a Filipino restaurant chain.  Established in 1997.  Currently over 60 locations throughout the Philippines, as well as a few in the US, a few in Singapore, and, of course, one in Qatar.  The menu offers a wide range of typical Filipino favorites.

Under BLUE MARLIN STEAK, the copy reads: You haven’t been to Gerry’s if you haven’t tried this!  Available in selected outlets only – if it’s such a must-try item, then why isn’t available at every location?!

Pinakbet is a Filipino dish.  Consists of chopped vegetables (e.g., bittermelon, squash, okra, string beans, eggplant), initially steamed then stir-fried and seasoned (e.g., soy sauce and/or fish sauce and/or shrimp paste) with aromatics (e.g., garlic and onions) and sometimes meats (e.g., pork) and/or seafoods (e.g., shrimp).  A popular accompaniment to any meal.

The pinakbet at Gerry’s was not to my liking.  The main problem was that I don’t like most of the vegetables in this dish, including yellow squash, okra, ampalaya, eggplant.  I also found that the combination of ground pork and bagoong was kinda weird (Koreans sometimes dip pork in shrimp paste, which I also find weird).  Oh well.

I’m grateful just to be done with the 3rd floor.
