at Anthracite

-Mapo, Hapjeong, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with Seoul Silent Book Club

Anthracite is a coffee house.

Located 1,076 m from Hapjeong Station (Exit 7).

Silent Book Club is a reading community.  Participants meet up (e.g., at a coffee house), take out their own books, read silently to themselves for specified period (e.g., one hour), then discuss with each other.  According to the website, the club has over 1,500 chapters in over 50 countries; the Seoul chapter was established last fall.

Got through 2 chapters of John Sutherland’s A Little History of Literature, and 1 chapter of Bora Chung’s Your Utopia.

I participated for the first time in Seoul Silent Book Club this afternoon.  Loved it – can’t recall when I last indulged in an uninterrupted hour of reading, just for the sake of it.  Even better, I met with the chapter leaders to discuss possibilities for future collaboration – stay tuned.

28 participants, the largest gathering yet.
