Ildo Jjambbong

2.5

at Jjambbong Ildo

Jjambbong Ildo is a Korean-Chinese restaurant.  Standard menu (but see below).  Despite appearances, it would seem to be an independent business (Naver lists no other establishments, yet).

Located on the 2nd floor of the Uolim the River Shopping Center (see generally 17.158 Tandoori Chicken (Not)).
Offers mini/midi versions of certain dishes.  And draft beer, a rarity for Korean-Chinese joints.
As splashed on the walls of the restaurant.

The origin story doesn’t make sense in 3 ways.  First, it claims that the chef had prepared 100,000,000 bowls of jjambbong over 34 years, which would’ve been 8,058 bowls per day, at 365 days/year.  Then, the chef sampled “all” the regional variations of jjambbong across the country to determine the best qualities of each, though he should’ve done that before making the 100,000,000 bowls of jjambbong.  Finally, the chef unified those qualities to develop a single, ultimate jjambbong, while the menu offers 9 variations.   The absurdity makes me think that it wasn’t the work of a corporate marketing team.

Mini Yuringi (2.0): poorly executed, but not bad at just 9,900.
3,900 for 500 ml (2,900 for 300 ml).

I will be back, if only for the mini dishes and the draft beer.

Ildo Jjambbong (3.0): the basic version at 9,500 – less than 1/3 of the price at Mutan (see for comparison 17.170 Taean Gim Haemul Jjambbong), and 3/4 as good.

And the building offers free parking.
