A spur-of-the-moment trip to the cabin with DJ to help my mother with some landscaping, arriving with nothing but the clothes on our backs, I scrounged through the freezer in search of dinner and came across a slab of babyback ribs. With signs of freezer burn, the ribs did smell a bit funny upon defrost, so I doused the meat in a spice rub. After an initial bake, they smelled even funnier, as if the spices had enhanced the off-notes, so I drowned them in bottled BBQ sauce and cooked them some more. Ultimately, I succeeded in eliminating the funniness, but the ribs turned out so salty, and somewhat dry, that I needed a fat glass of Scotch in between each one. Fortunately, DJ and Mom had already eaten ramyeon for dinner and didn’t even want to taste them.
