Whereas gimbab by definition is dried laver (gim) + rice (bab), it typically comes rolled with various veg and meats inside, like Japanese maki.
This samgak (triangle) form is a secondary type. Rice is shaped into a triangular chunk, saucy filling in the center, wrapped dried laver, like Japanese onigiri.
Dried laver, sized specifically for this application.
Spicy tuna in a can, not made for this purpose but ideally suited for it.
(1) layer of rice pressed into triangular mold + (2) dollop of filling placed in center…
(3) cover with layer of rice + (4) press into shape…
(5) remove mold + (6) cover with dried laver (still in plastic wrap).
(7) remove wrap just before eating…
(8) enjoy.
Not my thing, certainly not for dinner, but okay for a quick fix snack or a simple lunch for the kids.
