Project 30/30/30: 6 of 45 (see also 45/45/45)

Throughout this November, I am challenging myself to eat 30 dishes from 30 countries over the course of 30 consecutive days.

India is the 6th country.

Located in Bundang.
In terms of decor, possibly the fanciest Indian restaurant that I’ve ever visited

Taj is an Indian restaurant.

In anticipation of working late this evening, and given the dearth of foreign food in Suwon, I stopped by Taj on the way to work and got something to go that I could later eat in my office.

As GMTD would attest, I have an obsessive-compulsive personality that makes collecting anything, like these magnets from my travels, a very expensive and time-consuming and overblown hobby.

I was offered the lunch menu, so I ordered this basic non-vegetarian set.  It included chicken tikka masala, shrimp curry, salad, side dish, and naan.  The chicken tikka masala was a very lean curry with a strong undercurrent of chili, making it much spicier than other versions of the dish that I’ve had, but in a good way.  The shrimp curry was pleasantly creamy and buttery, but it came with little dried shrimps.  The salad was shredded lettuce in an unfortunate dressing that looked and tasted like artificial strawberry cake frosting.  The side dish consisted of sliced onions tossed in red chili powder, probably a proprietary invention intended to satisfy the local demand for something kimchi-esque.  The naan, even though cold by dinnertime, remained surprisingly chewy.  Maybe because of the unusual circumstances, but I found the meal overall to be very fulfilling.  And at just 10,000 won plus 10%, it was quite the bargain.
