88 Seoul Beef Burger

88 Seoul Beef Burger is a new burger from McDonald’s Korea. Beef patty + egg salad + onions + ketchup + sesame seed bun. No idea what the name, presumably in reference to the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul – no relation to a similarly named burger 10 years back (see 4.178 1988 Burger) – has to do with egg salad.

Terrible. While I like egg salad sandwiches in general (see for example 11.082 Egg Salad Sandwich), it didn’t work as a burger topping, resulting in a confusing flavor profile with the savory beef patty on one side against the sweet egg mash on the other, clashing in every chew. After a few bites, the burger turned into a mess. I hate to waste food, but I couldn’t finish the rest of it.

Today is our 16th wedding anniversary, which I was reminded of a few days ago when I got into a car accident in front of the former Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the wedding venue (see 13.246 Cheese Waterfall Chicago Chef Classic Tomato Pizza). Looking back through GMTD, I was somewhat disappointed but not surprised that only 1 post features a meal in celebration of the special day (see 2.249 Smoked Salmon with Artichoke Hearts and Capers), 1 post describes various events leading up to the wedding but no mention about the wedding anniversary (see 6.250 Guksi), and 2 posts detail arguments that derailed festivities that had been planned (see 3.251 Deep-Fried Smoked Chicken, 12.249 Palbochae). I seem to recall celebrating in the first few years of the marriage, prior to GMTD.
