In contrast to previous gatherings at work, where the food was laid out in the conference room and staff would drop in to get their own shares and eat at their desks (see most recently 13.281 Not), this was the first time that we did it all together in one space. I insisted, arguing that the point was to build morale, not to feed.
It started at 15:30. The food was gone by 15:45, at which point everyone was kinda milling around, whispering to each other in small pockets. Disappointed that the event had failed to achieve the main objective, I suggested to start wrapping up at 16:15 and go home an hour early at 16:30. But by 16:00, presumably when the booze began to kick in, things got rolling. At 16:30, a volunteer contingent went out and brought back more food. At 17:15, the original end time, everyone seemed reluctant to leave. Morale successfully built.
