Haemul Jjambbong
3.0
-Changgok, Sujeong, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea-
solo
At Ju, the haeumul jjambbong is more anju than meal. First, it comes in a large nabe over a stove, so that the broth remains warm, while diners enjoy their drinks and occasionally eat from the pot. It’s large enough to share, perhaps 2-3 portions. The components comprise various seafood, with a few udon noodles. And, the price: 26,000 won

It was good. Broth, nicely balanced, with strong wok hei – judging by the sounds coming from the kitchen, it’s made in the Chinese style, in a wok over high heat. Noodles, firm and chewy. Seafood, fresh and plentiful, although the abundance of shellfish was a hassle. Not worth 26,000 won (even though the manager later gave me extra noodles) – better to eat 2 bowls of samseon jjambbong at Shanghai (same building) (see for example 14.265 Samseon Jjambbong).
