See’s Candies is an American candy producer and store. Candies are primarily chocolate-based. Founded in Los Angeles in 1921, now headquartered in San Francisco. More than 200 stand-alone stores, mostly in California, as well as countless stands in other retail locations (e.g., airport duty free stores).

While growing up in California, I ate a lot of See’s Candies. Too pricy for me to buy on my own – anyway, the closest store was too far to bike it – but every so often my mother would come home with a box.

On our recent trip to San Francisco, I was very happy to encounter a See’s shop near the hotel (I would later encounter other locations). Walked out with $220.25 worth of product – W thought that I was insane.

Upon our return, I’d stored the various boxes in the storage freezer on the balcony, intending to savor them, eating a few pieces at a time, every once in a while. But then I kinda forgot about them. Until this evening, when I opened the freezer to find all of them gone, except for a single box of Nuts & Chews. Over the past few weeks, during the afternoons when I was at work, W and the boys had been eating the candies in secret, hastily, knowing that I would lock the candies away for good as soon as I found out. They nearly got away with the whole thing.

Fortunately, turns out that See’s Candies now has several locations in Seoul (including at department stores that I’m historically familiar with, so they must’ve happened while we were in the Philippines).
