Baekma Kim-ssi-ne is a Korean restaurant.  Specializes in grilled beef.  Also offers gulbi.

Located 42 m from Maebong Station (Exit 1).

Having spent the first part of the lunar new year holiday with my parents (see most recently 16.024 Ddeok Mandu Guk), we had lunch with W’s parents on the third and final day.

Gulbi bori, available for takeout purchase: 300,000 won for a pack of 10.

Bori Gulbi is a Korean dish.  Yellow corvina (gulbi) are initially salted and hung to dry in the sea air, then placed in a jar with barley (bori), where the bran both helps to preserve the fish and imparts extra flavor.  To eat, the fish is typically grilled and served as is.

A waste of barley, in my opinion.

While everyone else went with galbi, I went with gulbi.

I don’t like newfangled banchan, like salad with kiwi dressing.

Didn’t like it.  The flesh was overly salty, unpleasantlyfishy – as gulbi tends to be.  Dry, dense texture.  The lunch set, which also came with rice + nureungji + doenjang jjigae, was ridiculously overpriced at 48,000 won (see for comparison 15.143 Teuk Okdom Gui (+ Kodari + Jeyuk) Hansan).

Never understood why Koreans like this fish so much (see also 13.247 Gulbi Gui).
