Tangsuyuk

3.0

at Seoraehyang

-Daechi, Gangnam, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with LJY + M

Seoraehyang is a Korean-Chinese restaurant.  Strictly standard.  May or may not be part of chain (many restaurants with the same name, but with varying interiors, logos, menus).

Weird vibe.

The plan had been to have dinner at a fancier place near their hotel, but it was closed (apparently, forever), so we scrambled to find an alternative venue and stumbled across this place.

Squeeze Brewery Lager: very crisp.

The tangsuyuk serving was huge (didn’t come in a smaller size), so we were already getting kinda full halfway through (in fact, we left a few pieces behind), and just ordered a jjambbong to round out the meal (also a generous portion).

Anyway, the food was fine.

This morning, we were disappointed to learn that DJ had been rejected from Stanford.

Here are the final results:

ACCEPTED

WAITLISTED

REJECTED

Last week, following his acceptance to UCLA, I had predicted as follows: USC (sure thing), UC San Diego (good shot), Cal (good shot), Boston College (maybe), Georgetown (maybe), Cornell (maybe), UPENN (maybe), Dartmouth (maybe), Northwestern (long shot), Stanford (long shot), Yale (long shot) (see 16.076 Galbisal).

Obviously, though somewhat shocked that he didn’t get into a single Ivy, I am exuberant that Cal is the top contender.  However, DJ has some lingering thoughts about going to an old school on the east coast, so Georgetown is still in the running.

I spent the afternoon drafting slides comparing Cal v Georgetown, as well Berkeley v Washington DC, on a variety issues, not simply to sway him but also to help him make a fully informed choice.  Admittedly, I was biased in my selection of issues and specific data points, but frankly I was happily surprised at how easy it was to make the case for Cal, which apparently is so much more awesome than I had ever thought, even as a graduate, and to make the case against Georgetown, which apparently is not as prestigious as I’d always believed from afar.

And now I wait.
