Pyeongyang Naengmyeon

3.0

at Bong Piyang

(Lotte Department Store)

In my on-going exploration of eateries in Lotte Department Store, I was most gratified to find a branch of Bong Piyang.

Located in the Open Dining Pub food court at B1.

Bong Piyang will boasts the honor of winning the top spot in GMTD’s epic mul naengmyeon challenge: Seoul Searching for Pyeongyang-Style Perfection (see SSPYSP) (even if Jinmi Pyeongyang Naengmyeon, not yet in existence at the time, has since usurped the throne).

1 of the 4 largest restaurants in the food court.

This is the 4th Bong Piyang location to be featured on GMTD.

Unlike the full service restaurants, the menu does not offer their signature table-top grilled meats (e.g., dweji galbi), only items prepared in the kitchen and served ready to eat.  Which is totally understandable – like how would they manage the live coals?

Surprising that they’d only offer Kloud, given its deep hoppiness, somewhat overpowering for the relatively mild flavors of northern-style food.

The food was good.  Perhaps a tad shy of the other locations, though perhaps I was biased by the food court nature of the set-up.

Gaeseong Mandu (3.0)

So far, that makes 4 solid establishments where I’d be happy to eat any day of the week.
