Alssam Jjuggimi Bokkeum

2.5

at Jongro Jjuggumi

-Gwansu, Jongro, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with LY and friend

Jongro Jjuggumi is a Korean restaurant.  Specializes in jjuggumi bokkeum.  Refreshingly old school independent.

Located 421 m from Euljiro-3-Ga Station (Exit 1 or 2), or 565 m from Jonggak Station (Exit 4) – the original location on the left (red sign), with the new branch 2 doors to the right (red sign).

LJY is in town (see most recently 16.084 King Crab for Winners).

Incidentally, she has lost her status as the blog’s Number 1 Fan because the blog no longer has any fans, or even casual readers (as far as I can tell).  On her last visit, after being chastised by her daughter for not following the blog anymore, LJY dropped the following comment on a post: “Number One Fan returns!!! I feel a bit like the prodigal son 😆, welcomed back even after straying from the blog ❤️. The tuna was delicious, the somek performance so fun, and awesome to get the kids together again” (see 16.080 Royal Special Set).  Then never returned.

15,000 per person is about 5,000 too much.

Anyway, her friend (also visiting from LA) had done some research and found this place.  When LJY informed me of the venue, my response: “You want me to go all the way out to Jongro to eat jjuggumi?”

Apparently, they were both excited to try it because jjuggumi isn’t available in LA (hard to believe).  By contrast, jjuggumi bokkeum is common in Korea, a dish that office workers eat when they have no better option.   In the history of Korea, no local has ever travelled across town to eat jjuggumi bokkeum for dinner.

Bokkeumbap in the leftover rice – perfect for lunch.

The food was okay.  Served with fish roe (al) + perilla leaves (ssam) to be eaten as wraps.
