AUTHOR VISIT

Jessica Kim is back in town (see previously 15.095 Ssal Eomuk + (Cup) Ddeokbokki), this time visiting Chadwick in Songdo, and SJAJ and BHA in Jeju.

Session 8: Revision Writing Workshop.

Dropped by at midday to take Jessica out to lunch.

LUNCH

Wui Meyonok is a Korean restaurant.  Specializes in noodles, including their signature kal guksu, but the menu also offers a seemingly random assortment of other dishes, such as soy pickled shrimp and deep-fried mandu.

Located 1.5 km from Chadwick.

Figuring she’d prefer something Korean (she lives in the States), I’d researched places near campus and determined this place as the most suitable venue in terms of vicinity, pricing, and menu.  When I asked what she wanted, she said, “Something brothy, like kal guksu.”

Though billed as baekhap, I believe that these would qualify as daehap (giant baekhap) (see generally 16.172 Spaghetti alle Vongole).

The food was great.  The huge clams were pristinely fresh, sweet and succulent.  The resulting broth was light with the delicate fragrance of clam.  The handmade kal guksu were beautifully uneven, chewy.  Jessica seemed impressed.

Forgot to take a close-up of the noodles.

Incidentally, when Jessica and I had first met last year, we learned within minutes that she too had graduated Cal.  She was one of the first people that I’d emailed upon DJ deciding to attend.  Go Bears!
