Yet another mediocre offering from what has apparently become my family’s go-to neighborhood Chinese restaurant.  We need to find a better go-to.

My cousin HJ’s husband TH recently commented upon seeing this blog for the first time: “Your posts are often not compliments but rather saying that a certain restaurant is mediocre.”

Granted, I don’t give ratings generously here, whether a dish was made in a restaurant, at home, at a campsite, or in a factory.  I’m extremely picky about the food that I eat, yes, but I’m also honest about it, and I try to be objective.  I’d like to think that any rave on GMTD means that the food was actually pretty good.

Another thing is that the purpose of the blog is not to seek out good food.  Frankly, I’m not sure if any purpose exists beyond keeping a record of my daily dining habits and thoughts on food for my own benefit – perhaps later for the reading amusement of DJ.  GMTD’s Number One Fan LJY once referred to the whole endeavor as “narcissistic.”   I do try to eat the best dinner whenever I can, but often I eat whatever comes my way, regardless of how many stars that the meal may produce.

Nevertheless, only a small minority of my experiences thus far have been negative: out of 437 dinners, only 59 (14%) have been less-than-good with 1.5 or less.  And to clarify, a 2.0 rating does not mean that the dish was bad, just that it wasn’t particularly good – and seriously, I’m content with 2.0 any day, though perhaps not every day.
