Following the resounding success of my first experience with Fog City (see generally 3.015 Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bowl), I put in a second order, this time for the beef stew, chicken burrito, and vegetarian burrito, as well as their signature baked-on-the-premises sourdough again. The package was delivered in person by Bob and his wife, the proprietors of the establishment, all the way from Incheon! And they were most generous in tossing in a tub of their pico de gallo salsa fresca, free of charge!
As with the clam chowder on the previous occasion, I dug out the insides of a sourdough round to make a bowl and filled it with the stew. The stew was delightfully simple, chunks of tender beef, potatoes, and carrots in a thick rich broth – in a word: hearty. Though a tad underseasoned for my palate, a dash of salt made it just right. I am still amazed by the tenderness of the beef. The bread, this time fresh, was even better than before. At 5,000 won for the jar of stew, plus 2,500 won for the bread (1/4 of a 10,000 order), it was a great value, more than enough for 2 servings.
The soups from Fog City have come in Classico’s “Atlas Mason” jars, which I happen to collect and use to store various ingredients on my kitchen shelf – maybe it’s a Bay Area thing.
