Having placed a moratorium on the cabin because of all the grief that my mother had been giving me for going there and, allegedly, trashing the place, I’m now getting scolded for not going. “You’ve had your fun, but there’s still work to be done.” So, on a Thursday night, after a full afternoon of classes, I drove 120 km from school to the cabin to install light fixtures and put up curtains and do a bunch of other important/stupid crap. And wouldn’t you know it, I received a major ass-chewing from my mother over the phone when I dared to question whether this thing or that thing really needed to be done.
In a rare moment of objective self-awareness, I’m beginning to wonder if all these recent spats with the closest people in my life are my fault. At this point, I’m thinking not.
