Whereas this dish at this restaurant has been one of my consistent favorites for nearly two decades, I’m alarmed by the plunge to only moderate goodness this evening. The meat was a bit dry. And something about the mumalaengi was good, but far from excellent. The restaurant may have altered the recipe, though that doesn’t seem likely after all these years of success.

Even more scary is the possibility that my tastes have suddenly changed, toward the negative, which happens a lot these days and sucks every time because my pool of potential pleasures in this life is thus reduced by one. I’m just hoping that it was an off-night, on either end.

The unwavering presence of the same two women doing the serving was also reassuring, who’ve been there every single time that I’ve visited as far back as I can recall. They’ve never struck me as owners, but 20 years is a helluva long period of employment for mere waitresses.
