On a visit to Manila in 2012, wandering around the hotel in search of a late-night snack, I’d stopped by Chic-Boy, knowing nothing about the place.  Knowing nothing about its signature item, I ordered a half-bird on faith and took it back to my room.  I was totally blown away (see 3.243 3.243 Seafood Platter + Pancit Bihon + Ihaw Pusit).  Since then, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

I’m probably not be the only person ever to take a whole lechon manok from Chic-Boy back with him to Seoul, but it must be a small elite group.

On the final night of my recent trip, before heading to the airport, I dropped by the restaurant, ordered a whole bird for takeout, and brought it home.  Two days later, reheated in the oven, the chicken wasn’t so spectacular.  Oh well.  Maybe next time.
