Lentejas con Chorizo

3.25

at Casa Armas

-Malate, Manila-

solo

BLUE: highly recommended / GREEN: respectable / YELLOW: mediocre / ORANGE: better avoided / RED: never again; as suggested by the range of colors, not a single blue, as well as the 2.0 average rating, TEICA was not looking very promising.

Although I’d given serious consideration to attempting TEICA (Try Every Item at Casa Armas) (see most recently 6.045 Tortilla Española)–going so far as to design a table to chart progress–I’ve decided not to.  The deciding factor was the tenderloin steak, which was crappy, bad enough once, but it appears on the menu several times in various forms, presumably to similar degrees of crappiness.  Another major obstacle would’ve been the big ticket items (e.g., roast baby pig) that require a day’s advance order.  Forget it.

I’ll be back for sure, but under no obligations.

Solomillo a la Pobre (1.0)–way too much deep-fried garlic.
The meat had an odd texture/taste/appearance, as if it had been brined or marinated in something (e.g., red wine?)–didn’t bother to ask; also, I don’t think that it was tenderloin.

The Lentejas con Chorizo was pretty good.  A thick stew, rich pork accentuated by the smoky sausage, pairing quite nicely with the nutty lentils.  With a few slices of bread, this would make a fine meal in itself.  Best item that I’ve tried here thus far.

The steak was the worst.

Ensalada Mista (1.25)–iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, and a sprinkling of canned tuna, oil and vinegar on the side.
