Sweet Sticky Rice with Ripped Mango
2.5
at Siripanna Villa Resport & Spa
-Chiang Mai-
with participants of the workshop
Khao niao mamuang is a Thai dessert. Consists of sticky rice (khao niao), cooked with sugar and coconut milk, served with slices of ripe mango (mamuang). Most famously associated with the north.
Though generally not a fan of dessert, I do appreciate khao niao mamuang on occasion. Contrast of textures : sticky + mushy. Contrast of flavors : creamy + sweet — but not too sweet. Good stuff.

Dinner, by gracious invitation of the organizers, was held in the hotel restaurant.
The food — from one of the nicer establishments in the city, in a country famous for cuisine — once again confirmed my growing suspicion that all Thai dishes rate a solid 2.5 across the board (about 6.25 on a 10-point scale), no more, no less, ever respectable, never remarkable.

Mission to Thailand + Personal Deviation, Day 2 (see previously 6.170 Khao Soi Goong).
In Chiang Mai. Arrived last tonight. Here to support a workshop on tobacco and trade, today through tomorrow. Hanging around for the weekend. Getting back to Manila on Sunday evening.
why “ripped?”
i think it’s supposed to be”ripe” or maybe “ripened” —that’s what it said on the menu, and I tend to use the exact name when possible, even if it contains a possible typo.
