Emergency Sick Leave, Day 7 (see previously 7.018 Mul Naeng Myeon).

In Seoul.  Arrived a week and half ago on a mission.  Injured my back last weekend (see generally 7.011 Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza).  Staying in town for treatment.  Aiming to return to Manila next Saturday.

Hanseong Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant. Founded 1983 (according to the signage).
My father comes here for dinner every week with this friends after playing billiards in the afternoon — Ajeossi Bellwether Standard (see most recently 4.192 Seolnong Tang).

Incidentally, my mother has been in the States all week, leaving my father completely helpless, which is why we’ve been having dinner with him so frequently these days.

Tonight, his other plans got cancelled, so we cancelled our own plans, already in progress, and met up with him again.

He took us to one of his favorite restaurants.

The spread was distinctly northern in character.

Banchan (2.5)
Suyuk (3.5)
Mandu Guk (2.5)
Bindae Ddeok (3.0)

The food was good all around.  As with all the dishes, the kalguksu was plain, but in a good way, demonstrating a kitchen confident in the purity of the flavors, how northern food should be.

Our original plan had been to spend the evening at a kids’ café…
…where the boys could play and the parents could work, dinner on the side.
IZ expressing his displeasure at having to leave early.
