Mission to USA + Personal Deviation, Day 9 (see previously 7.039 Sauteed Cod Fillet).

In Seoul.  Spent the past week in the States, first to give a guest lecture last Monday on global health at TU in Philadelphia, then to attend a meeting Tuesday through Friday on NCDs at the United Nations in New York.  Return via Incheon.  Spending the weekend at home.  Back to Manila tomorrow.

1 pound.

The best pastrami in the world, purchased from Katz’s and packed to go (see generally 7.038 Hot Pastrami Sandwich), flown 6,869 miles, halfway the world — with a time difference of 12 hours, New York and Seoul are literally halfway around the world from each other — reheated and enjoyed at home.

By the time that we got through picking at the meat, only scaps remained to make a sandwich — a paltry representations of the real deal.

Nowhere near as good, but still excellent.

I have another portion to be flown another 1,628 miles to Manila, to be reheated and enjoyed in my apartment, all by myself.

For lunch at Pyeongyang Myeonok (see most recently 7.018 Mul Naeng Myeon), naeng myeon, including the bibim variety, which I have yet to describe on GMTD.
