Taste Test: Flame-Grilled Cheeseburger vs Whopper Jr

2.5

at Burger King

-Glorietta 4, Makati-

with W

Winner: Whopper Jr – hands down, as agreed by W.   The tomato and onion – even if sliced stupid thick – provided a welcome freshness that paired nicely with that famous hint of “flame-grilled” char.  Even though I prefer cheese on my burger in principle, the Cheeseburger here felt a bit clumsy.

By contrast, in a prior taste test of McDonald’s products, I observed: “the ‘uniquely delicious, je ne sais quois artificiality’ of the brand is best in its purest form, undiluted by natural ingredients, like fresh tomatoes, fresh lettuce” (see 7.359 Double Cheeseburger vs Tomato Cheeseburger).

If I haven’t already written about it before, I’ll say again that perhaps the difference is that the Whopper generally tastes more like something that could be made at home, such that the fresh veg feel don’t seem so out of place – anything fresh at McDonald’s feels out of place.
