Whereas Neoguri is my favorite Korean ramyeon (see most recently 8.138 Neoguri Ramyeon), Sappori Ichiban Shoyu Ramen is my all-time favorite.  Classically thin squiggly noodles, silky in texture, immaculate in flavor.  Rich soy sauce broth – admittedly, a far cry from the real thing – but perfect in its own artificial right.  An excellent platform for deluxification with any manner of add ons, as Koreans are wont to do.

Kangkong (morning glory) leaves, scallion, enoki mushrooms, rice cakes, egg, chili oil, white pepper – the chili oil and white pepper make it taste a bit Chinese.

In fact, Korean expat families in the States relied on Sapporo Ichiban up through the early 1980s, when Korean ramyeon brands became readily available (see story above).
