Earlier in the day, I dropped by the supermarket in Robinsons Place, where I used to buy groceries while living in Malate (see generally 5.014 Sautéed Kangkong & Shrimp in Garlic-Patis Sauce over Sprout Fried Rice).

I was not surprised to find that the marketing team is still pulling the same health-based scams to push the sales of junk foods for kids.

I was, however, shocked that they had resorted to taking blank “SHOP SMART” cards issued by the National Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute and inserting their own bar code labels to insinuate that DOST had endorsed the products.  But who knows, perhaps the fortification of vitamins and such qualifies an item as “healthy” under the DOST standards, even if the rest of it is sugar and crap.  I should look into this.
