Very pleased by our first experience with Shanghai via delivery, I was curious to try the food in person at the restaurant.

As I’ve mentioned before (probably many many times), dining in at a neighborhood Chinese joint in Korea is a bit unusual, which is why they’re almost always completely empty; I’d estimate 90% of their business is delivery, 10% dine-in, 0% takeout (well, maybe on rare occasions, but I’ve never done it or seen it or heard of it).

Lajo gi is a Korean-Chinese dish.  The Chinese characters break down as “la(辣)(spicy) + jiao(椒)(chili) + gi(鷄)(chicken).”  In Korea, the dish involves deep-fried pieces of chicken, which are stir-fried with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and other vegetables in a mildly spicy glaze.  Very similar to gganpung gi, which is a bit spicier and heavy on the garlic, no veg.

As with most Korean-Chinese dishes, I have no idea what the original dish, if any, is like.

Though I think that I prefer the simplicity of the restaurant’s gganpung gi.
