Big news (not really): the fish counter at our local supermarket The J-Mart has gone from the old-school, open-air, on-ice layout (see generally 11.229 Gwangeo Hoe) to the modern, packaged, refrigerated model.  While the latter is presumably safer and fresher – though at The J Mart, I’ve never had reason to suspect the quality of the fish – it doesn’t have the same charm.

Also seems like the variety has reduced by a lot – individual styrofoam packaging takes up more space than arranging bare fish side by side.
Prices for the salted mackerel (godeungeo jaban) have gone up since 2020: 7,900 won for Norwegian (vs 6,900 won), 9,900 won for Korean (vs 8,900 won).
