Shrimp Tacos

at God Eat

God Eat has opened a restaurant in Wirye.  Currently 19 locations, quadrupled since the Seongsu branch was covered on GMTD almost exactly 2 years ago, also coincidentally shrimp tacos (see 3.012 Shrimp Tacos).

Located in the Wirye Sunhwan-ro 4-gil mall, where Wirye Jeong used to be (see generally 12.125 Garlic Mayo Burger).

DID YOU KNOW: The Korean language does not have a vowel corresponding to the long E, the closest being the short I, as represented by the Hangeul character (ㅣ).  So, English words containing the long E are often mispronounced/confused with/replaced by words with the short I: for example, “I have big fit (feet)” or “I want a clean shit (sheet).”

From the website, none of this makes any sense (even in Korean).

“God Eat,” previously described as “one of the dumbest names in GMTD history,” is dumb for several reasons.  First, the incorrect grammar – is it supposed to mean “God Eats” or “Gods Eat” or “Here God, Please Eat” or “Godly Eats”?  Second, “eat” and “it” are not homophonic, same with “god” and “got,” except perhaps to a Korean speaker.

Prices have gone up a bit since 2022: 2 shrimp tacos previously had cost 8,000 won, compared to 9,000 won tonight.

Tequila Highball: tequila + ginger ale.
Surprising that a place offering free cilantro and lime does not carry a proper Mexican hot sauce.

The food was okay.  Falling way short of authentic, unimpressive all around, but nothing inherently offensive (see for comparison 14.152 (“Korean-Style”) Chicken Burrito (sans Pepperoni) (with Cheese!)).  Still, very happy to have a non-Korean dining option so close to home.

Still failing to heat the tortillas.
