Sjörapport is an IKEA brand of frozen seafood. The name means “sea (sjö) report (rapport),” which is what maritime weather reports broadcast on the radio are called in Sweden.

I was surprised to see the country of origin listed as Greenland, which I’d always thought of it as a big frozen uninhabited island belonging to Iceland (I suppose because of the myth that Icelanders had named it “Greenland” to fool Viking invaders into going there, while naming their own island “Iceland” to make it seem inhospitable).

DID YOU KNOW: Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. Also one of the Overseas Countries and Territories of the European Union. The island has its own government, flag, and anthem. Fishing accounts for 90% of the economy. 90% of the population are ethnically Inuit. Sometime around the 13th century, it was dubbed “Grœnland” by Norse settlers, who had hoped that the pleasant name would attract more people to come.

The shrimp were thawed, sautéed in butter and garlic, served on top of the clam pasta.
