K and B are in town!  Their first trip to Korea.

Since my last visit over 2 years ago, when lines were interminably long (see most recently 14.156 Mandu), the restaurant has expanded further to occupy the entire ground floor of the adjacent building (left), now referred to as the “main” and the original restaurant (right) is the “annex” – no line this time.
The main, about triple the space as the annex.

For their first meal, I took them to “my favorite restaurant in the world” – it really isn’t anymore, and was only referred to as such because it serves my favorite rendition of (what once was) my favorite dish in the world.

Offered to us as a menu for foreigners, even though it’s entirely in Korean.

On my 27th visit to the restaurant, I ordered the eobok jaengban for the first time.

Could do with a bit more veg, like the one at Pyeongyang Myeonok (see for example 5.003 Jaengban Ban), if only to balance out the generous portion of meats – come to think of it, additional veg would likely be provided upon request.

It was excellent.  The pork and beef were exquisitely tender.  The broth was rich and satisfying, enhanced with pops of bitter freshness from the perilla leaves and crown daisies.   The best jaengban that I’ve experienced thus far.

The only people who would eat rice in this restaurant are young children and Filipino tourists.

I was disappointed that K didn’t like the mul naeng myeon, the restaurant’s raison d’être.  She couldn’t get past the fact that the noodles were cold, which seemed weird to her.
