Triumphant Return to the Philippines: Day 3 of 5

In the Philippines!  First time since we bugged out during the pandemic in 2020, exactly 5 years ago tomorrow (see 11.147 Bulgogi). The schedule is packed, including stops in BGC, Anilao, and Malate.

BREAKFAST

Beef Tapa (2.5) + Fried Egg (2.5) + Garlic Rice

DIVING

Yesterday, DJ and I had gone out for 2 dives in the afternoon, while IZ stayed behind with Dong to train in the pool.

This morning, we all went out together.  Although I had been a bit concerned how IZ would fare in the open water – he gets flustered easily, especially when physically uncomfortable – he took to it like a champ.  DJ, after an absence of 5.5 years, looked like he hadn’t missed a day – so effortlessly smooth (see for comparison 10.147 Grilled Swordfish + Barbecue Chicken + Stir-Fried Pechay) (exactly 6 years ago).  I said to Dong, “I’ve always thought that you are the most elegant diver that I’ve ever seen, but I believe that DJ might be better.”  Dong replied, “Good – that means I taught him well.”

LUNCH

MERIENDA

DINNER

My all-time favorite Filipino meal: adobo + garlic rice + fried egg.

When I expressed disappointment that adobo was not on the menu, Dong ordered the kitchen to make a special plate for us – perks of being friends with the owner.

Monsoon season on the horizon…

It was a perfect day.  To think that this had been a regular thing back then makes me wonder if I had truly appreciated being so blessed, as I do now.

Grey Goose Essences Watermelon & Basil: “made with vodka,” so not actually vodka per se.
