Book Fair at Humphreys High School: Day 4 of 4

In Pyeongtaek.  Supervised a book fair at Humphreys High School on the United States Army Garrison Humphreys aka Camp Humphreys: set up Wednesday, sales Thursday and Friday, break down Friday.  Stayed on an extra day to hang out with SIS alums living nearby.  Very excited, not only for the book fair – our first ever at Humphreys – but for the food opportunities on and around post.

LUNCH

Dr Yoo is an American/Korean Chinese restaurant.  Offers a handful of American Chinese standards, such as General Tso’s Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef etc, but also Korean Chinese standards, such as jjajang myeon, jjambbong etc, as well as straight up Korean dishes, such as japchae, bulgogi etc, and of course (this being The Ville) straight up American dishes, such as wings and fries.  Chain consisting of 6 locations (though nothing in Seoul).

Located 61 m from the main gate.
Despite prominent branding as “fresh made American Chinese food,” they couldn’t resist promoting jjambbong and jjajang myeon.

If only to extend the Pyeongtaek experience by one more meal, I had lunch before driving back home.

Curiously, all the staff were Arabs.

Initially drawn to the prospect of American Chinese food, I also ordered jjambbong as a remedy for last night’s binge.

Jjambbong (1.5): the broth was okay, which is all I really needed …
… but the noodles were unpleasantly mushy.
Egg Rolls (1.5)
Pickled Cabbage (3.5): surprisingly good, in light of the rest.

The beef and broccoli was not good.  The beef was nicely tender (properly velveted, apparently), but the broccoli was way overcooked and the sauce was way too sweet.  Couldn’t get past the first bite.

LOOT

After wrapping the book fair yesterday, our host at HHS was kind enough to take us to a convenience store on post and swipe her ID card so that CE and I could buy a few goodies, stuff not available on the outside.

Not that cheap: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were $2.29 for 1.5 oz pack, which can be purchased on Amazon for half the price, albeit in bulk.

My primary objective had been Oscar Meyer Bologna, but the store didn’t have any.

I did score all-beef hotdogs, even though they came in a 19-pack – should last me a couple years.

DINNER

While the food over the past 3 days had been kinda fun, it wasn’t actually very good, certainly not good for me.  My body craved detox.

Spicy Andong Beef Gukbap (3.5): just what I needed (see most recently 16.313 Spicy Andong Beef Gukbap).
