Despite what the aggrandizing name would suggest, this dish was nothing more than an impromptu assembly of leftover ingredients.  It consisted of a baguette, meat sauce, and grated gruyere, all popped in the oven on high for a few minutes.  With French/Italian/Swiss components, the combination seemed like something that could’ve come about near the shared border of those three countries, say, somewhere in the neighborhood of Mont Blanc.  I suspect, however, that it may be more American than anything, judging by the surfeit of American sources for recipes that result upon googling “baguette pizza.”  In fact, it reminded me of the “french bread pizza” that the cafeteria at my elementary school in California used to serve on occasion.  For purposes of the blog, I’ll categorize it as Italian.
