Stuffed Mushroom + Shrimp Cocktail with Mango Salsa
1.5
at WHO WPRO Cafeteria
-Ermita, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines-
with meeting participants
The occasion was a welcome reception for the participants of the First Regional Forum for WHO Collaborating Centres, which is hosted by WHO WPRO today and tomorrow.
A company called Urban Chef took over the WHO WPRO cafeteria a couple months ago. Though the change was promised to provide healthier food, the opposite has occurred. The chef or whoever makes the culinary decisions would appear to have no concept of nutrition, judging by all the processed meats and creamy/greasy sauces – at breakfast, every morning, always some kind of generic SPAM and at least two types of sausages/hotdogs, typically smothered in melted fake cheese. Through massive and sustained complaint, they’re getting incrementally better, but still light years away.
Tonight was the first time catering a dinner event. The food was generally meh, and weird in some cases.
Case in point, the Stuffed Mushroom was actually a ground steak burger (probably pork) with some minced mushrooms mixed in, topped with a sweetish cream sauce.
Also, the shrimp part of the Shrimp Cocktails was fine, but the Mango Salsa part was way too sweet, jacked with sugar syrup no doubt.
