Try Every Restaurant in New World, Pan-Pacific, Diamond Hotels (3 of 10) (see also TERNWPPD)

Eating my way through the restaurants in the 5-star hotels within walking distance of my apartment in Manila: New World (3), Pan-Pacific (5), Diamond (2).  In contrast to the crappy food in the neighborhood, hotels ought to do better, at least in terms of quality.

As of 1 January 2015, the Hyatt will become the New World.

The Fireplace is an American restaurant.  Specializes in grilled beef steaks, as well as some seafood, sauces leaning French, sides sold separately in the aggravating tradition of overpriced steakhouses.

The food was okay, by which I mean that it was pretty crappy, given the prices.  The best that I could say about the meat was that it was neither gamy nor tough, but also wasn’t particularly beefy nor tender.  And being grilled, it lacked texture.  At over 3,000 pesos per person, the most expensive and least cost-effective meal that I’ve had in Manila thus far.

Grilled Garlic & Herb Prawns (1.5): sprinkled with dried tarragon – WTF?!?!
Asparagus (2.5)
Mushroom Sauce (2.0)
Truffle Mashed Potatoes (2.5): couldn’t taste a lick of truffle.
