The Prodigal Son Returns to Celebrate Holy Week, Day 2 (see previously 6.086 Spaghetti in Meatball Mash Sauce).

In the Philippines – arguably the most passionately Catholic country in the world – Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are national holidays. I’ll be spending the extended weekend in Seoul, arriving early yesterday morning, flying back to Manila Sunday evening.

KK and friends are in town for the weekend as well.  None Korean, no official ties to the country, just here for a food holiday.  This marks the 3rd occasion having dinner in Seoul with colleagues from work, including various K staff (see most recently 5.229 Really Good Food), SM (see 5.265 Happy Medium), and JR (see 5.295 Grilled Hangjeongsal).

Meonggae (2.0)–never been a fan.
Sannakji (live baby octopus) (2.0)–notice the tentacles trying to make their escape
Lobster (2.5)
Jeonbok (abalone) (2.5)–sautéed with garlic.
Maeuntang (2.5)–with the bones from the fluke sashimi (not pictured).

I was very impressed that they were all game to try new things, especially the sea squirt and the live octopus.

But the highlight, of course, was the king crab.  Sweet and succulent, as only king crab can be.  Without doubt, the best shellfish in the world, making lobster seem tough and tasteless by comparison.  I should be eating it more often.

Next time–maybe with Lisa, at long last?–I’ll get better photos.

Quite an epic meal.
