Mission to Jordan, Day 5 (see previously 6.157 Double Lamb Chop).

In Amman.  Arrived Tuesday.  Wednesday thru Saturday, I’m participating in a workshop to support countries in strengthening their legal frameworks to restrict the marketing of junk food to kids.  Going back Sunday evening.

The workshop wrapped a bit early today so that we could visit the ancient Roman ruins in Jerash.

Upon our return to the city, I finally got a chance to eat dinner outside the hotel — the first time since my arrival in the country three days ago.

I’d had been looking forward to trying something from this string of establishments across the street, but they all turned out to be shisha (water pipe) bars — no food.

The only establishments serving local fare within walking distance were a pair of shawarma joints.  Fine.

In light of my mission here, I opted for the place on the left.

The manager, perhaps upon seeing my camera and sensing the blog, made it a point, twice, to say that the food is Syrian in style.  Sure.

The food was okay.  Tasted American — and I don’t mean that it tasted like Arabic food in America but that it tasted like American food : cheesy chicken wrap, fries with ketchup, cole slaw, pickles.  Not a bad thing necessarily, though I was hoping for something more … exotic. Oh well.
