Trip to Korea, Day 1.  To go camping, sort of.  Arrived this morning.  Flying back Monday evening.

In the distance, both literally and figuratively : Airstreams, along with Range Rovers (to pull them) and Porsches (for beer runs).
IT, now set up here more-or-less permanently, having paid a year’s rent up front.

Should’ve expected that actual camping — in tents, with open fires — wasn’t going to happen, everyone in the camping crew now preferring the comfort of their trailers.  The last time that I slept in a tent was almost exactly 2 years ago (see most recently 5.104 Donggeurang-Ddaeng).

Slick.
Conveniently, a shallow pool is built into the deck, allowing the kids to play while the parents eat and drink.
Although I had packed the outdoor gear, we elected to rent a unit, upon seeing the facilities.
Still a bit chilly, the boys ultimately opted to play in the indoor whirlpool bathtub.

As usual, the day was spent cooking and eating, and drinking, no set meal, individual dishes coming in never-ending succession, everyone contributing something, most everything excellent.

Dak Dori Tang (3.0)
Geotjeoli Kimchi (3.25) : having secured the recipe, I will be making this on my own someday soon.
Beef shank…
…boiled until tender, but retaining enough chew to keep it interesting…
Standard Korean operating procedure when slicing something hot : cotton glove + plastic glove.
Beef Suyuk (3.5)
Scallop Stir-Fry (3.0)
Sea cucumber viscera.
Konowata (0.5) : plus sashimi, seasoned with salt and sesame oil, topped with shredded nori and sliced scallion; with all due respect, I couldn’t handle the slimy texture nor the fishy taste.
Steamed Sea Snails (3.0)

My contribution was grilled chicken tikka — coincidentally, similar to what I’d prepared on our previous outing (see 5.160 Tandoori Chicken) — with the purple couscous tabouleh that I’d invented a few days (see generally 7.105 Nokdu-Zucchini-Shrimp Fritters…).

Using a spice mix from Shan, courtesy of ADL (see generally 7.103 Nokdu & Zucchini Fritters).
I miss grilling meats over live coals (see for example 3.217 Barbecued Whole Chicken…).
Look at that color!!!!

The chicken was okay.

The tabouleh was awesome.  My companions, who’d never tried tabouleh, never even considered parsley as anything but a garnish, seemed duly impressed.
