On our way to the cabin, a day trip to do some “essential” yard work – if those shrubs don’t get planted this weekend, the world will collapse, as my mother would seem to imply – we grabbed lunch at the Burger King drive thru and ate it in the car.

Jalapeño Whopper is a product by Burger King. It’s the basic Whopper with just a few pickled jalapeño slices tossed in.
It was good. I was very relieved to find that it didn’t involve something weird, like jalapeño jam, as these promotional burgers tend to get needlessly gimmicky (see for example 12.059 Truffle Mushroom Whopper). The Whopper on its own is a decent burger, so the simple jalapeños were just right to give it a little kick.
In the rear of the cabin, we maintain a grow tent for shiitake mushrooms.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that the mushrooms had already fruited due to the warm weather in March.
The mushrooms are grown by drilling holes in log bolts and filling them with inoculum plugs, then keeping them in a moist, warm, shady environment – that’s it.
Our first spring harvest yielded a few kilos. Expect to see them in almost everything that I cook over the next couple weeks.
