Gongsimchae Deopbap

at Hyangmi

solo
Following a meeting at SFS to discuss the fall book fair, I stopped by the mini Chinatown in Yeonnam-dong for a late lunch (see most recently 13.156 Geon Dubu Bokkeum).

Hyangmi is a Korean-Chinese restaurant. Offers the standard selection of Korean-Chinese fare, as well as a handful of actual Chinese dishes. Renowned for dumplings, especially xiaolongbao.

Excited to find options beyond jjajangmyeon and jjambbong, including a rice plate (deopbap) featuring morning glory (gongsimchae).

When I arrived at 2pm, the restaurant was mostly empty of customers, a lull in the action, an opportunity for staff to make xiaolongbao, on the dining floor, with pet dog to observe.

The food was pretty good. In any case, I was grateful to eat such “exotic” items like morning glory and handmade dumplings for lunch at a neighborhood eatery.
