Chicken Kebabs
2.5
at Sultan Kebab
-Itaewon, Yongsan, Seoul, Republic of Korea-
solo
So very pleased to report that Sultan Kebab – featured in Cycle 1 (see 1.044 Lamb + Chicken Kebabs) – is still in business. Amazing longevity for any restaurant in Korea, especially a non-Korean restaurant in Itaewon
At 13 years, 1 month, and 30 days between that first encounter and today’s visit, it’s the longest stretch of any establishment covered on GMTD. The second longest is just under 13 years for Dongbuk Hwagwa Wang (see most recently 13.363 Dubu Wanja), though that place has been featured many times in between. The only other restaurant from those early days of Cycle 1 that I know is still around is Everest (see most recently 12.256 Masala Papad).

I had a debriefing at YISS on the book fair a couple weeks back (see generally 14.090 Chicken Rice Bowl in Chipotle Sauce), so I swung by Itaewon for lunch. I should make a habit of this (see also 14.069 Chicken Burrito).

In addition to Sultan Kebab, 2 restaurants in Itaewon that are still in business from the old days when I was a regular in the neighborhood are Agra (2.337 Tandoori Shrimp), which I recently revisited (see 14.078 Butter Prawn Makhani), and Braai Republic (3.311 South African Meat Platter), which I should give another go.

The kebabs were okay, not as good as back in the day, when kebabs were a rarity.
