Orange Chicken is an American-Chinese dish. Chunks of chicken are deep-fried then tossed in a tangy orange-flavored glaze – essentially a variation on sweet & sour. Panda Express, the American shopping mall chain, claims to have invented the dish in 1987. Like General Tso’s Chicken, a similar dish, Orange Chicken is hugely popular in America but not found in China.
Before today, I can’t recall ever ordering Orange Chicken, even at Panda Express, where the dish is supposedly their signature item.

It was okay – this could very well be the last time that I order the dish for the rest of my life.
