Setting Up Shop (Pik-a-Book): Day 4 of 4

In transit, returning from Busan.  There to oversee set-up of our new store – Pik-a-Book – located in the Village de Ananti, as teased in a post on our recon mission a couple months back (see generally 16.190 Suyuk (Assorted Boiled Meat Slices).  Soft launched Saturday, grand opening today.

For various logistical reasons, I left the resort before noon even though my train was scheduled to depart Busan Station at 1500.

LUNCH

I had lunch at Sinchang Gukbap, where we’d enjoyed an excellent dinner in July.

With 3 hours to kill, I didn’t mind the queue.
Presumably, these women had waited in line to be seated, so wouldn’t the decent thing be to get the fuck out once finished with the meal?  And what the fuck is it these days with people and phones?

Happy to discover that the menu offers a single serving portion of the suyuk, with rice and soup – though not really a true baekban with numerous sides.

Alas, the experience was far less enjoyable this time.  First of all, the meat was kinda cold and dry, served unceremoniously on a plastic plate – by contrast, the full order had come as a hotpot with warm broth and garlic chives.  But mainly, obviously, it just wasn’t any fun eating by myself, compared to eating and drinking with staff.  And I’m still kinda sick.

No more queue by the time that I left (see right), but customers were still lined up for the place next door (see left), which is where I’ll be eating next time.

TRAVEL

Absolut Peach (2.0): this used to be called Absolut Apeach.

DINNER

Arrived at Seoul Station around 1800 and decided to eat dinner before heading home.

Seoul Station

Happy to find a branch of Five Guys in the complex, providing an opportunity to verify my first impression of the chain (see most recently 16.120 Cheeseburger (All the Way)).

Located at Connect Place, right of the main terminal.

Recalling the mess last time, I ordered the Little Cheeseburger (Cheeseburger in actually a double cheeseburger) and customized the toppings to just mayo + mustard + lettuce + pickles (“all the way” = mayo + ketchup + mustard + lettuce + pickles + tomatoes + grilled onions + grilled mushrooms).

Little Cheeseburger (2.5)
How is the lettuce already so limp and sad?

First impression confirmed: meh.  No mess this time, but the burger itself was entirely forgettable.  Totally not worth the hype.
