Fish + Shrimp Tacos

2.0

at Taco Square

-Seongsu, Seongdong, Seoul, Republic of Korea-

with dbBOOKS staff

Taco Square is a Tex-Mex restaurant.  Offers tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, and, of course, fries and wings.  Franchise, currently 3 locations.

Located 332 m from the office.

Seongsu continues to thrive as one of the hottest neighborhoods in Seoul, especially for food.  With so many boutique eateries popping up near the office, I’ve decided to start exploring them, though frankly I don’t really have high hopes.

Also quesadilla and fajita.

I invited a few members of my staff to join me, the group that eats packed lunch together in the conference room – Wednesday is their cheat day.

This is so ludicrously dumb that I wonder if it’s a joke.

When I commented with disdain about the practice of providing “How to Enjoy” instructions at restaurants in Korea, my staff seemed puzzled.  What’s wrong with trying to be helpful?  A new customer might have questions.  I pointed at the Taco Eating Instructions.  That’s being helpful?  A customer might have a question about angles?

Anticipating this …
… I brought my own.

The food was largely miss, but with potential for hit.  Most promisingly, the tortillas were grilled, possibly hand-made.  The toppings, including cilantro, were simple and on point (each type of taco comes with different toppings).  The deep-fried proteins were a bit greasy and lacked crisp, though the fries were quite good.  But the sauces, at least for the fish and shrimp (each type of taco comes with a different sauce), were way too sweet.  I doubt that I’d come back for more, though I wouldn’t strenuously object if someone were to insist.

Fish Taco (2.5): the pickled cabbage was nice.
Shrimp Taco (2.0): sauce made everything feel even heavier.
Fries (3.5): with skins … but ketchup?
